JNP Dance Academy’s Company is made up of a select group of dancers ranging in ages 9 to 18. Students perform at two regional dance competitions as well as optional dance conventions. The team is chosen through an audition process. Dancers are selected for the company because of their technical and artistic abilities, their commitment and desire to learn, their positive attitudes and excellent attendance in class. The dancers compete in at least one group dance as well as having the opportunity of being chosen for smaller group numbers, duo/trios and solo’s.
The company functions as both a performance group and a competitive team. Aside from the regional competitions, we provide optional opportunities in participating in non-competitive environments such as performing with Recycled Percussion, The Salisbury Art Festival and Dance The Magic in Universal Orlando Florida. The dancers learn the importance of teamwork, dedication and commitment all while just enjoying being on stage and spreading their love for dance.

Members of our company have developed a great work ethic and excellent time management skills. Requirements:
Audition: We hold an audition in June for students who may be interested.
Ages 9+ ( Level 2 and higher)
Must take all core technique classes: Ballet, Lyrical/Contemporary, Jazz and Tap. Along with the company choreography class.
Summer classes: Company members are required to dance with us over the summer. We offer three, 3-day intensives and strongly encourage dancers to try to attend at least two of them, or other classes we offer in substitution.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How many days a week do they dance?: For the younger dancers, 2 times a week. As dancers get older, 3 times a week.
When do we compete?: Twice a year. One mid- late winter, the other early spring. (Anywhere from February- early May)
How far do we travel for the regional competitions?: We try to stay pretty local, never more than an hour away.
Are conventions and other performing opportunities mandatory to be apart of Company?: No, those are all optional. We understand that it might not be feasible or enjoyable for everyone and that is absolutely okay!
What are the extra expenses are to be expected?: You will have an entry fee for each competition which are usually anywhere between $55-$85 each. You will also have to purchase a costume for the dance(s) they are in, anywhere between $65-$95 each. *They do the same dance(s) at both competitions so they use the same costume(s) for both.*
What is a dance convention?: This is an all day event where they will take multiple styles of dance from well known choreographers from all over the world. It is a great experience for the kids to learn in a different environment and to get exposed to other styles and teachers than just us at JNP. We present the option of attending one to two of these usually between October-January and they are always on the weekend. The price for these can run anywhere from $150-$350 depending on the convention. But again, these are always optional.

We started this team with the goal to give our dancers the opportunity to perform and learn more in different dance environments. We truly believe in "quality vs. quantity". We love to work hard and strive to be the best dancers we can be, while not losing sight of the importance of kids having time to be kids.
